Privacy Policy

SavingRecipes helps you find recipes based on what's on sale at nearby grocery stores. This policy explains exactly what happens to your data. The short version: there are no accounts, and we don't store anything about you on our server.

What we store on your device

Everything the app remembers is kept in your browser's local storage on your own device. Nothing here is transmitted to us:

• savingrecipes:week — this week's deals: the stores found near you, the ones you selected, their flyer items, and the items you ticked off. This is deleted automatically once those flyers have expired (at most 7 days).
• savingrecipes:profile — your meal plan, your pantry, your favorite recipes, the things you asked to avoid, and any ingredient matches you hid. This is kept until you clear it.
• savingrecipes:prefs — your light/dark mode choice, whether the plan panel is open, and the last ZIP or postal code you entered, so you don't retype it.
• savingrecipes:adConsent — your answer to the cookie banner, if ads are enabled.

You can erase all of it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this site. Nothing is recoverable by us, because we never receive it.

What is sent to our server

When you search for stores, your ZIP or postal code is sent to our server so it can look up local flyers, and when you load deals the selected flyer IDs are sent. We use these only to fulfil that request — they are not stored in a database, linked to you, or used to build a profile. Our server keeps no user accounts and no personal records. Standard, short-lived server logs may contain IP addresses, as with any website.

Third-party services

• Flipp — supplies the weekly grocery flyer deals.
• TheMealDB — supplies imported recipes.
• Wikimedia Commons — supplies freely-licensed recipe photos.
• Font Awesome — serves the app's icons from kit.fontawesome.com.
• Fly.io — hosts the website.
• Cloudflare Web Analytics — counts page views on the website so we know which pages get used. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, assigns you no identifier, and cannot follow you to other sites. It is not loaded in the iOS or Android apps.

Requests to these services expose your IP address to them, as is normal on the web.

Advertising and cookies

SavingRecipes shows no advertising and sets no cookies at all — not for advertising, and not for analytics. The storage described above is functional only: it exists to make the app work.

We do count page views, using the cookieless Cloudflare Web Analytics described above. That tells us how many people used a page; it does not identify you, does not build a profile, and cannot track you across other websites.

If advertising is introduced in the future, you will be asked for consent before any advertising cookie is set, you will be able to decline, and this policy will be updated to name the ad provider first.

Children

This app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export or delete on request. Clearing your browser's site data removes everything the app has kept.

• Weekly deals from Flipp.
• Recipes from TheMealDB, and recipes by Sally's Baking Addiction, King Arthur Baking, Made With Lau, Korean Bapsang, Just One Cookbook, Hot Thai Kitchen, Hungry Huy, Mexico In My Kitchen, The Mediterranean Dish, Kawaling Pinoy, Immaculate Bites, Cook With Manali and The Magical Slow Cooker, each linked to its author's page. We keep only a recipe's name, ingredients, time and servings; the method, photos and notes stay on the author's site. Kawaling Pinoy's recipes show one of Kawaling Pinoy's own photos, credited to them, as their photo policy allows.
• Recipe photos from Wikimedia Commons. Each photo's author and licence are shown with its recipe.
• Animations by Rare UI, Motion Primitives and Magic UI; confetti by canvas-confetti.
